In /system/console/configMgr, find the configuration for “Apache Jackrabbit Oak LuceneIndexProvider” (pid=org.apache.jackrabbit.oak.plugins.index.lucene.LuceneIndexProviderService) and edit it (click on image below to see details).
This will also create a config file in /apps/system/config/org.apache.jackrabbit.oak.plugins.index.lucene.LuceneIndexProviderService.config which can be packaged (using Package Manager) and deployed (copy package to /crx-quickstart/install) to other AEM environments to perform this same config change.
From Oak 1.0.13 onwards, this behavior will be made default.
